Memories
I KNOW OF A CHOIR... by Sally Ayson
I know about a choir
I've heard they sing quite well
Sometimes it's from heaven
And sometimes it's from hell!
There's this Musical Director
Nigel is his name
He has the patience of a saint you know
And no-one is to blame.
Nigel 's always very cheery
Well .. he appears to nonetheless
But I know what's not appreciated
Is the underlying stress!
For singing out a wrong note
Or being out of key
Or keeping to the wrong time
(that NEVER could be me?)
The group is split in different parts
It helps with harmony
But only if they all do listen
Or else they're all at sea
The altos are in trouble
What's new I hear you say?
They give that Nigel lip you know
They could chat the day away
Have I mentioned the sopranos?
What a Trilling lot they are
Except if they miss those top notes
You'll wish you were afar!
But what about those Basses
They reach notes way down low
That's of course if they are focussing
Or we end up full of woe
The Tenors are a lively bunch
One even plays guitar
But their singing can go either way
Then we all head for the bar
Helen the accompanist
She keeps the group from straying
I wonder when she moves her lips
If she is doing silent praying?
You see she's extremely accomp-alished
And talented besides
Without her we are anchorless
And washed up with the tides
Nigel's back conducting
His face shows a touch of frost
Who is it then I wonder
Sitting with legs crossed?
He's waving his arms in time
They are swinging to and fro
Is anyone still watching now?
By the sound of things - It's NO!
Where does he get his patience
His love of music shows
It's infectious - I can see that
Exuding from his fingers to his toes
Ah listen!
The sopranos have hit that note
It resonates so clear
It's followed by another one
Nigel 's grinning from ear to ear
The altos now are singing well
It just shows they sometimes listen
The harmony they're building on
Could really make your eyes glisten
The Tenors and the Basses
Have joined the growing sound
Together with some teamwork
It's getting off the ground
You see - It's worth the effort
The fortnightly trek and moan
Yet together as a group
They create a lovely tone
So you've heard about these singers
I'm sorry if it makes you tire
I'm ready now to introduce
LAUDAMUS CHAMBER CHOIR!!
